I Am A Muslim Too:
February 19th was the day of solidarity with the Muslim community. I attended the protest in Times Sq, New York. I was joined by many community leaders and members for this powerful event. The speakers were there from various organizations and religious groups to show their support. The travel ban is unconstitutional and dehumanizing to everyone around the world. Although I am a white woman living in New York, we need to stand up for our Muslim brothers and sisters. The United States was founded on religious freedom and diversity, those were the core values of the Founding Fathers. For many, it seems there to be a lack of remembrance about those values. The United States can not been a place for just white men, it has to be a place for everyone to come and have a chance to succeed.
Russell Simmons, a speaker for the event and well known rap mogul, left us with some words:
“…diversity will prevail…We are living in a time when unity will make America great. This is a special moment for all Americans of goodwill to band together to promote the kind of compassion and equality for others that we want for ourselves.”
